Seconding that person. GW2 isn't like WoW (or other games) where if you play a non-meta spec, no one will include you. GW2 first of all is much better balanced, secondly, has much better build variety (eg an elementalist can heal, tank, melee dps, ranged dps, support dps, etc).
Try watching Lord Hizen's videos and choose your class, because all of them can do everything solo, but some classes are very well designed to play solo: 1. Necromancer, mainly Scourge. Pros: The best survivability due to huge amount of barriers. Easy to play, no skill rotation. You can boost your passive healing by using runes of tormenting.
Can bring heavy CC and reflects at the cost of DPS. Soulbeast - Mix of Burning, poison and bleeding. Pretty durable but rather low DPS compared to other classes, but definitely a safe and easy to play pick. Thief - Very braindead rotation which also involves dodging for DPS, a mix of poison, torment and bleeding.
With a plethora of utilities from their F2 and F3 tomes, like massive healing, projectile reflects, resistance fields, plus aegis's and stability out the wazzoo, there's a reason why condi firebrand is top tier "meta" right now and able to solo entire raid or CM fractal bosses. 10. Enlightenedbri.
Quick and heal brand are both good but dragon hunter is possibly the worst dps spec in pve. I know im going against the grain, but Engineer is probably the best overall class in PvE. I dont think any other class has a heal alac, heal quick, dps alac, dps quick, straight condi dps, straight power dps.
Runes: Vampire Runes - Every mob you kill heals you for 10% of your max HP. Turning medium to large mobs into constant healing sources by tagging them. Instead of being afraid of large groups you'd feel safer. Tormenting Runes - For tormenting heavy classes, mostly for boss fights. Very expensive.
Last Update: December 2023. A mostly Air focused elementalist build for open world, the Fresh Air Tempest has massive area of effect spells, single target burst, and great defensive utilities to keep them alive. The Fresh Air trait allows you to incur the 20 second cooldown from Overloading Air Attunement but recharge it the instant you crit
Its wvw and pvp builds mainly dragonhunter felt very natural and both condi firebrand and power dragon hunter were really fun dps classes. Guardian also brings a metric fuck ton of utility even in irs core kit allowing it to be a great supporter accross all content. Willbender is kinda meh outside of pvp imo. And mesmer.

There are some traits that synergize together and change how you play. All the classes are fun, and you can explore the whole game as any class. I suggest picking a class, playing it till you are bored, and then switch to another. Try em out, eventually you'll find a character that you will fall in love with.
In my opinion, thief class in GW2 pvp scene is really more of a harasser or damage/points capture support. They can't 1v1 effectively but a good thief will be able to win a 2v2, 2v3, and sometime even 2v4 for his team. They have good burst combo and various options to jump in and out of a single battle when needed.
Character Select Background - Small but very much appreciated. 149 upvotes · 12 comments. r/Guildwars2.
Currently it’s a high dps option relying in backstabbing from stealth. They have many buffs and options for stealth as well as fulfilling that assassin fantasy with marking targets. Traditionally rogues aren’t highly mobile classes with access to a multitude of teleports, so daredevil wouldn’t fit.
Unlike other games, the best armor and weapons in the game are crafted, so you generally pick the ones with the best benefits with that regard. Armor is usually account bound as well so you don't have much of a choice with armor. First one should be whatever you need to make your own armor. For medium armor classes (Engineer) that's Leatherworking.
Warrior: It's the one I'm most interested in, I never played it but it seems easy and fun to play. The lack of cool particle effects and the heavy emphasis on banners worries me a bit tho. Guardian: I had a level 80 Guardian before all the elite specs and delete it because I didn't really like it, too much support oriented for my taste. I guess
